Battery backup in Pretoria
An inverter and battery that switch over in milliseconds when the grid goes down. Panels optional.
If your main worry is outages rather than the bill, a backup system is the simplest place to start. The battery charges from the grid, takes over the moment the power goes, and the inverter can take panels later without being replaced.

Questions
Battery backup: common questions.
How long will the battery keep me going?
A 5 kWh battery runs lights, Wi-Fi, a fridge, a TV and the gate for roughly eight to ten hours. Add a borehole pump or a home office and it drops. The sizer shows the trade-off.
Is it noisy?
No. Inverters make a quiet fan hum under load, nothing like a generator. They are usually mounted in a garage or on an outside wall under cover.
Does a backup system need municipal approval?
If the inverter is set up so that it cannot feed power into the grid, the requirements are lighter. We confirm with your supplier what applies and handle the paperwork either way.
