Brightveld Energy is a fictional business. This website is a concept built by CodeLab One to show what a solar installer's website can look like. Please do not send personal information through it, because there is no business on the other side to act on it.

The notice below shows how a real installer would explain its handling of personal information under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). Where it describes this website, it is accurate.

This website does not use cookies, analytics or tracking scripts, and it does not store anything you type into it. The system sizer and the site visit form run entirely in your browser, and nothing you enter is sent anywhere.

A solar installer uses your name, contact details and address to arrange a site visit, prepare a quote, install and certify the system, apply to your municipality or Eskom for grid connection, and register product warranties. Electricity bills and photos of your distribution board are used only for sizing and design.

Where the job requires it, information is shared with your electricity supplier for the SSEG application, with equipment manufacturers for warranty registration, and with a structural engineer if the roof needs a check. It is not sold, and it is not used for third-party marketing.

Installation records, including the Certificate of Compliance and design documents, are kept for as long as warranties and the law require, so that the system can be serviced and certified later. Enquiries that do not go ahead are deleted after twelve months.

Under POPIA you may ask what personal information is held about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and object to its processing in certain circumstances. Requests go to the information officer, who for the purposes of this concept is Annelize Botha.

If you are not satisfied with how a request is handled, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za.
